Sharing the Joy of Fresh and Timeless Music
| |
Chris and Anna Brozek have always been passionate about music. While music in this “digital age” of downloads and MP3 players is amazing, they know and appreciate the vast amount of talent and great artists from an earlier time. A time when “records” were made of vinyl in at least three different sizes. And on the flip side, they also know how difficult it can be for new, independent artists to get their records played and become |
| known. Wanting to share their love of music with the community, they opened Slowtrain Music in July 2006. |
| Slowtrain offers music from independent and local musicians on CD and vinyl. In addition, you can find music DVDs, turntables, concert tickets, locally made posters and gifts, and more. They have over 50 listening stations in the store including a digital kiosk where customers can scan CDs to sample just about anything. You might also be lucky enough to walk in and enjoy one of their free, all-ages, in-store performances. |

Slowtrain's focus is supporting independent and local musicians. Chris and Anna love to discover new music and share their finds with customers who are looking for something new. You will always find a comfortable and friendly environment where anyone can shop and discover new music. |
| After working over 80 hours a week for two years, a $25,000 microenterprise loan in the summer of 2008 allowed Slowtrain to hire two part-time employees. This enabled Chris and Anna to focus on growing their business and running the shop more efficiently while still providing the excellent customer service they’re now known for. |
“Our UMLF loan helped us grow our business, hire employees and continue doing what we love."

Chris and Anna acknowledge that the loan has definitely helped them to weather this economic recession. They received it at a time that enabled them to keep a strong staff while allowing them to focus on strategizing ways to reach new markets and survive a decline in sales.
