Meeting the Needs of a Community

Having worked at Diva for a time, Maggie Pugh knew the minority community needed different and more specialized products than were generally available.   Maggie wanted to help people not only improve their image, but their entire lives.  When she had a chance to buy the business from the owner, she went for it.

Diva Girls offers a large array of specialized hair products as well as expert advice for those in need.  The products include wigs, extensions, shampoos, conditioners, relaxers and more.  Maggie is committed to providing professional and friendly service at a fair price.  In fact, if a customer is anxious to try out a new product, she can go into the salon next door to Diva see how it works.

In March of 2007, a $25,000 microenterprise loan enabled Maggie to purchase the store, expand the space to include salon services.  A second $15,000 microenterprise loan in the spring of 2008 help Maggie purchase more inventory and become even more profitable. With better visibility and convenience, Diva Girls is now located at 2696 South 500 East in Salt Lake City.  Sales have doubled and new products are arriving regularly.

“The UMLF provided me with the funds I needed to turn my store into something special!  I’m appreciative of the opportunity they’ve given me.”
