Building Community within a Community of Care
After eight years as a full time coffee cart employee, Anne Jensen, also known as “the coffee lady”, decided to take the plunge and become her own boss by making an offer to purchase the business from her employer. With this, she took on the exciting challenge of managing two diverse locations – Primary Children’s Medical Center and the main lodge at Brighton Ski resort. |

The Beehive Brews sells fresh brewed coffee and a variety of specialty drinks that include vanilla lattes, caramel cappuccinos and delicious gourmet hot chocolate. In addition she offers market spice teas, Hagermann’s goodies such as pumpkin chocolate chip bread and Dilettante’s famous biscotti and chocolates. |

Anne loves every aspect of the business from drinking coffee to providing a simple but delicious treat for current customers and new comers. She firmly believes that coffee bars fulfill a want and a need in the community. They are the new “front porch” of American society, bringing people together and providing a much needed moment to relax and enjoy a simple, but delicious cup of coffee and chat with a friend during their fast paced days. |
| A Utah microenterprise loan enabled Anne to purchase the carts in the summer of 2004. Since that time, she is reaching her goal of increasing both sales and customer satisfaction while creating a feeling of community which is the icing on the cake! |
Stop by one of Anne’s coffee carts and not only experience the way she makes you feel at home with her specialized, customized and personalized service, but a trip that was well worth it! While you’re there, ask Anne about how a microenterprise loan helped her make her small business dream come true. |
“Someone planted the UMLF seed a few years back and drafting my dream in the form of a business plan is the best move I have ever made. I now live my dream daily. A heartfelt THANK YOU to the UMLF.”
